Chico Paddleheads
Meeting April 2, 2008, Scotty’s Boat Landing
By Jim Dwyer with (comments by
Sparky)
Meeting was called more or less to order (considerably less than more than more than less) at 7:12
with nearly forty members in attendance.
Herb and Jean attended a full moon paddle headed by Dave
Garcia on the Forebay on March 22. Next one on the Diversion Pool on April
26th. Bring warm clothing to wear on the water and for take-out.
(Take-out? Chinese? Burritos?)
Treasurer’s
Report. Anne Marie Baltzell was unable to attend to Sue Good reported in her
place that we have around $2,300.00 in our account.
Trailer: Paul K. found a basic trailer at Harbor Freight for $300. For an
additional $375 a welder can provide a custom boat rack to hold 8-10 kayaks.
Good sets of straps, registration, and an insurance waiver would be required, so
total cost a little over $700 when the cheapest pre-made one is well over
$1,000. Jim moved and Deb seconded that we authorize money for the trailer and
for Paul to proceed. Passed unanimously.
IK Rental amount: After considerable discussion of the rental fee for an
IK complete with pfd, paddle, and pump we agreed on the price of $10.00/day.
Renting party is responsible for returning gear in good shape and in a timely
manner.
Carson River . Two sets of
dates, June 6-8 and May 30-June 1 were considered and the later earlier proposed
date was favored over the earlier later proposed one. Yes, that means May
30-June 1. (Have you ever proposed on a date? No, not
propositioned! How romantic…)
Friday night at Grover Hot Spring. On the river Saturday and Sunday. (If you’re a freaking masochist you can get up in the middle
of the night and then drive five hours starting at 4 in the morning. Not me! I
need my beauty sleep.) In order to reserve a sufficient number of
campsites, the car shuttle and organize group meals contact Deb ASAP and let her
know:
1)
Whether you are coming Friday night or Saturday
morning.
2)
What your vehicle situation is in terms of car
pooling.
3)
Whether you have a raft for gear support or can row
the club raft currently being repaired (we hope)
(Let’s hope Mark and Cindy go,
not just for their good company, but for Cindy’s killer pasta sauce!) Roland the Kneebreaker will
enforce fee payment!
Mendocino.
Calvin is reserving spaces in Van Damme Park for June 19-23. Contact Calvin ASAP
to know whether you can attend and which nights. This trip has great sea and
river kayaking and some mighty fine dining options.
Float’n’Bloat
(I recommend both!) May 17 and 18 on the
Sacramento ,
couple different options. We need to know who’s going and what the kitchen
situation will be. (Tom and Anna, what’s a
Float’n’Bloat without you? Come back!)
Flatwater
Festival to be held at Scotty’s. River hero John Scott will cover food and
drink and the only charge will be for security, around $150 total. $3 cover
charge, raffle, skills contests, and band. Roland and Lisa in the lead, but can
use help. (Well we all know they need help, but we love
them anyway.) August 2-3. (Originally we
proposed August 9-10, but Deb is having her toenails buffed and her tattoos
removed that day.)
T-Shirts: Paul K, Calvin and Lisa will work on this.
